IMPORTANT NEWS FROM EMIS HEALTH

06 Feb 2020 - Wuhan coronavirus: emergency MKB release underway

EMIS have now begun deployment of MKB 159.1.0 to the GP England estate. The deployment will be complete by 14th February, and will provide system updates required to support the care and tracking of patients during the Wuhan coronavirus.  The associated clinical template will be released shortly afterwards to the EMIS Library.

MKB 159.1.0 specifically contains the following EMIS National codes - these will be automatically updated by EMIS when SNOMED-CT terms become available in the next few months:

  • Exposure to 2019-nCoV (Wuhan) infection
  • Suspected 2019-nCoV (Wuhan) infection
  • Tested for 2019-nCoV (Wuhan) infection
  • Confirmed 2019-nCoV (Wuhan) infection
  • Excluded 2019-nCoV (Wuhan) infection

Coronavirus, Patient Access, and online appointment booking

In response to the updated PHE Guidelines around Wuhan coronavirus, EMIS are advising all EMIS Web practices to add the following message to their Patient Facing Services settings within EMAS Manager, either as the Welcome message, or Appointments message, or both

If you have travelled from China or have been in contact with someone confirmed as having Coronavirus in the last two weeks, you may be at risk of Coronavirus. Please do NOT leave the house. Instead, ring 111 if:

  • You have been in China in the last 14 days and develop cough, fever or shortness of breath; or
  • You have been in Wuhan or Hubei Province in the last 14 days or have been in contact with someone confirmed as having Coronavirus, even if you feel well

This precautionary message will appear as part of the booking flow for online service users of Patient Access and direct potential Coronavirus cases to NHS 111 instead of booking a regular surgery appointment, thus isolating suspected cases and preventing surgery disruption. It is recommended that this message is added immediately.

For guidance on adding this message to EMAS Manager, click here.

ALERTS

COMING SOON: QOF alerts to remain visible even after 2 invitations coded

Since the release of their QOF Alert Protocol v42, QOF alerts for outstanding reviews etc. are automatically removed from a patient’s record when a second invitation for review is coded.  Although this is in line with the v42 business rules, many users have found this frustrating.  EMIS have agreed to amend their QOF alerts so that they remain visible even after the second invitation has been coded.  Work is underway and EMIS are hoping to release this update in February 2020.

Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) can now be reported directly from EMIS Web to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) via the new Yellow Card functionality which is being rolled out to all users in version 9.5.

Detailed instructions of how to submit a yellow card are provided on the EMIS Now website.

Paramedic prescribing is not currently available on EMIS Web.  EMIS are developing a solution to this which they hope to release in EMIS Web v9.9, at the end of Q2 2020 (June).

Further information, and details of a workaround you can use in the interim, is available on EMIS Now.

Important changes to Sigvaris appliance products

In line with the regional Drug Tariffs for January 2020 a substantial number (90%) of Sigvaris products have had their name changed by the manufacturer. These changes will appear in the drug picking list and will also be reflected in the patient medical records.  These changes will take effect in MKB 159/160.

For further details of these changes, please refer to regional Drug Tariffs for January 2020.

EMIS Web 9.6 is now being rolled out

EMIS Web 9.6 contains new features and fixes, including:

  • Document Management – you can now mark a document as clinical or non-clinical using the 'Clinical document' field in the Document Properties screen. The following options can be selected when creating a letter, creating a document template, adding/editing a document or coding/filing a document in Workflow Manager:
    • Yes (this is a clinical document)
    • No (this is not a clinical document)
    • Not specified (default option)
  • Search Parameters - you can now create a patient search using the time a consultation took place.
  • GP Connect bookable appointments – the selectable options have now been limited to In person, Telephone and Video appointment slots.
  • Lab Reports - a problem that prevented lab reports containing multiple lines of free-text from printing completely has been fixed.

Look out for an email advising when your organisation will be updated.  More information can be found on EMIS Now.

SNOMED CT

100% of GP practices in England are now using SNOMED CT!

We hope that the changeover has gone smoothly for everyone.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Requesting SNOMED CT codes

Now that your practice is SNOMED CT enabled, you may find that you need to use an unselectable SNOMED CT code that you can see greyed out in the code picker, and that was not previously available in Read.  You can request a SNOMED CT code to be considered for inclusion in the SNOMED CT EMIS Subset, and consequently it will then become selectable in the code picker to be added to patient records. Find out how here!
